Saved queries #
The Saved queries pane automatically saves and stores all queries run in the query editor. Saved queries are sorted into three tabs:
- Recent: Lists all query tabs run during the past seven days.
- My saved queries: Lists the query tabs run during the past seven days, and named queries.
- Shared with me: Lists any queries that another user has granted access to you.
Manage your saved queries from the list in any tab.
Create a new query #
From either tab, select Create new query to open a new query editor tab.
Search queries #
Search for queries by name from the lists on either tab. You can sort either list by the query name or by the date when the queries were last updated.
Saved query management #
The Recent tab displays the list of timestamped auto-saved queries that were run in the past seven days. To save your queries beyond seven days, you must change the query name. Newly named queries remain in the Recent tab for an additional seven days. After seven days, named queries are located in the My saved queries list until you run them again or edit their name.
The My saved queries tab displays a list with named queries as well as the timestamped auto-saved queries from the Recent query list. Timestamped queries disappear from the My saved queries list after seven days. Delete a query at any time from either list. Deleting a query from one list removes it from the other list.
Sort query list #
By default, queries are sorted to display the most recent or recently edited query at the top of the list. Reorder the query list on either tab using the query name or the time a query was last updated.
- Click Name to sort queries alphabetically. Click Name a second time to sort them in reverse alphabetical order.
- Click Last updated to filter queries by oldest, last edited, to newest, most recently edited. Click Last updated a second time to sort queries by newest, most recently edited, to oldest.
Change a query name #
Queries that you have renamed are automatically saved in the My saved queries section.
To rename a query from either list, follow these steps:
- In the query list, locate the query you want to rename.
-
In the query row, click the vertical ellipsis menu and select Change name.
- In the Change query name dialog, click the Name field.
-
In the Name field, edit or replace the query name.
- Click Save changes to update the query name.
Delete a query #
Deleting a query from the either list means you cannot restore the query or its editor tab. Deleting a timestamped or named query from the Recent list also deletes it from the My saved queries list.
To delete a query from either list, follow these steps:
- In the query list, locate the query you want to delete.
- In the query row, click the vertical ellipsis menu.
-
Select Delete.
-
In the Delete query dialog, click Yes, delete.
Open a query editor tab #
In the query row, select Open to display the query in its existing editor tab. If there is no open editor tab for that query, a new one is created.
Preview a query #
In the query row, select Preview to display the query. Once the Preview query dialog is open you have the following options:
- Click Open in editor to display the query in its existing editor tab. If there is no open editor tab for that query, a new one is created.
-
Click Close to exit the preview dialog.
Share a query #
You can share queries with any role. Roles can be granted access to edit a shared query, or can be restricted to view and run the query. Only the creator of the query has the option to delete.
Follow these steps to share a query with a role:
-
When your queries were run determines where they appear in the Saved queries tab. Once you have established which criteria applies to the query you want to share, click either the Recent tab or the My saved queries tab.
-
Locate the query you want to share, and click Share.
-
In the Share query dialog, expand the menu in the Share with role field, and choose one or more roles from the drop-down menu.
-
Expand the Access field to grant edit rights or view and run access to the selected roles.
-
In the Roles with access dialog, you can view, edit, or remove access for roles with existing access.
-
Click Done.
Users with any of the selected roles can now access the shared query. Shared queries and the total number of shared queries appear in the Shared with me tab of all users who are members of a role the query was shared with. For the creator, shared queries appear only in the My saved queries or Recent tabs.
