ODBC driver V3 series #

The Starburst ODBC driver V3 series is described in the following pages:

Supported clients #

Starburst has tested the Starburst ODBC V3 driver with:

  • Microsoft Power BI
  • Tableau
  • Microsoft SQL Server, linked server
  • Excel for Windows (Get & Transform) uses the generic ODBC connector in import-only mode.

The following data type mapping changes occur when upgrading the ODBC driver from the recently available v2 to v3:

    • TIME and TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE data types are imported as localized date/time values instead of VARCHAR.
    • INTERVAL YEAR-TO-MONTH and INTERVAL DAY-TO-SECOND are imported as VARCHAR instead of BINARY.

Further data type mapping changes may become known as experience matures with Excel for Windows using the ODBC v3 driver.

When using ODBC driver v3, refreshing an existing workbook created using the older ODBC v2 driver may result in:

    • Values changing in the affected columns.
    • Additional columns appearing, changing the layout.
